How it doesn't work
The flaw here is at the points where there are holes in the barrier.
Consider that the pressure in a fluid increases with depth and also with
the average density of the fluid. Therefore, to balace the anti-clockwise
force, due to the extra upthrust on the right-hand side of the torus, there
is a clockwise force due to the fact that there is an extra pressure
difference on the lower hole. This can be proved to be of the exact same
magnitude as the upthrust difference (and I may even put the maths on here
when I have time.).
